N.Z. Steel hopeful

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 1. It was hoped that the problems the New Zealand Steel Company was facing with plant would be overcome in the next few weeks, the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Shelton) said in Parliament today. He had been asked by Mr W. W. Freer (Lab., Mount Albert) if the difficulties being experienced by the company in its ironmaking plant were the result of faults in productive techniques or of plant faults, and whether the cost was to be borne by the company or the plant suppliers. Mr Shelton replied that the company’s chairman of directors had frequently stated that the difficulties related to the equipment rather than the process. The major cost of modifiI cations to the plant would be: borne by the manufacturers, the Minister said.
