MARKET CONTINUES TO FALL IN MORE ACTIVE TRADING

The New Zealand sharemarket continued to weaken yesterday, in more active trading. There were few leaders among the small number of rises, but many among the falls. New Zealand speculative shares were weak.

Carter rights were traded for the first time and fetched 10c, about 12c below their theoretical value; the shares fell another 2c to 140 c. Feltex reacted to the announcement of a 10 per cent profit increase by rising 3c, to 360 c.

Other good rises were by Transport Nelson, which recovered 3c to 86c, with the rights jumping 6c to 36c, Wilson Malt C shares, up 4c to 189 c, and Kempthorne Prosser, 4c higher at 134 c. N.Z. Forest Products lost another 5c to 345 c and New Zealand Breweries fell 2c to 110 c. Insurances were also easier, New Zealand and South British losing 3c each.
