Appeal for refugees

A work day held by overseas students at the University of Canterbury raised $620 for the relief of East Pakistan refugees in India.

“We are very happy with this amount and are indebted to the public of Christchurch for their encouragement,” one of the organisers of the overseas student appeal (Mr C. Kerk) said yesterday. Further assistance will be given to the overseas students* refugee appeal from an Asian cultural concert to be held at the Ngaio Marsh Theatre at Ham on September 3 and September 4. This concert is organised by the Malaysian Amateur Dramatic Society and will include students from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and India.
