Sir,—This week comes news from China that the first Tibet autonomous regional congress has been elected in Lhasa. This is a milestone in history. A total of 505 delegates attended the meeting, Tliey Spoke lovingly of Chairman Mao, and told how Tibet was formerly like a hell on earth under the rule of the most reactionary feudal system. They suffered ruthless exploitation and oppression, . not only from the local government, but also from the monasteries and the nobility and the imperialist forces of aggression. “But now that the cock has crowed, all under heaven is bright.” Jen Jung, the Tibetan leader said, “Unite and march courageously along Chairman Mao’s revolutionary line.”—Yours, etc., PJJL August 31,1971.
