An interest in social and preventive work and the health problems of young people is desirable. A Student Health Service has been provided in the university for some 15-years. Since 1968 it has been under the full-time directorship of Dr W. S. Auburn, who will retire at the end of 1971. Membership by students is voluntary and the aims of the service are primarily preventive and educational. The Director is assisted by a number of part-time Medical Officers who each attend one or two half-day sessions per week. Access to the consultant services provided by the Auckland Hospital Board is readily available. The Medical Director is expected to work in cloee co-oper-ation with the Student Counsellors and any other student welfare agencies. Accommodation is provided in a central position on the campus and consists of three consulting rooms, a nurse’s office, a treatment room and a general office with secretarial and receptionist staff. Salary will be established according to qualifieatlons and experience within the range 59000$ll,OOO per annum. Removal expenses within specified limits will be paid by the university. The position is of Specialist status and applicants should have been qualified for not less than eight years, have had five years experience in modern anaesthesia and resuscitation, and hold an appropriate higher qualification.
