WORLD RECORD BIDS

A number of attempts are to be made on the outright world motor-cycle speed record within the next few months. A Honda-powered monster is being prepared in Milwaukee by Reaction < Dynamis, which built the! gas-powered Blue Flame I car that holds the land; speed record of more than ; 600 miles an hour. This* will be powered by two. 750 c.c. Honda four-cylin-' der engines and it seems I likely that the holder of 1 the world land speed re-; cord, G. Gabelich, will; pilot it

Another attempt on the record will be made by S. Wheeler, who last year exceeded 200 miles an hour on a Norton—the first to do so. He will return to the Utah Salt Flats with factory support and a streamlined bullet powered by a supercharged 900 c.c. Commando engine.

D. Vesco, who broke the world record last year with a 700 c.c. twinengined Yamaha and subsequently lost it to C. Raybom, has high hopes of raising the record. R. Leppan, another former world

record-holder, also has plans to regain the record. He is expected to use Tri-

umph engines in his attempt. The present record stands to Rayborn at 265.49 miles an hour. This was achieved on a 1400 c.c. Harley-Davidson.
