Also travelling with the New Zealand team will be a coach who will be appointed today by the national selectors (Messrs A. J. Donaldson, R. Shakespeare and R. M. Webb.) At a New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association council meeting on Tuesday Mr Don-

i aldson said that he had noted i a deficiency in the stroke , technique of some of the ■ swimmers included in the ■ New Zealand team although ! their fitness was not in doubt. In view of what he saw, he suggested a coach be ap- ' pointed to travel with the i team. Mr Donald said too many swimmers were lacking in i stroking and turning techs nique and these had to be : carefully coupled with the ■ conditioning of swimmers.

“Not so long ago we had the stroke technique and no condition. Now we have the opposite in some swimmers,” he added.
