U.N. team to Guinea

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) NEW YORK, Aug. 4. The President of the United Nations Security Council (Mr Piero Vinci), and the Secretary-General (U Thant) moved today to obtain quick agreement on the composition of a special mission to visit Guinea, which has accused Portugal of imminent military aggression. At an emergency session last night, the Council decided to dispatch a factfinding team of three ambassadors to the area.

The team, expected to be drawn from East, West and neutral States, will examine Guinea’s charge that Portugal had planned an invasion “to free mercenaries and other agents” captured in Guinea during the alleged Portugesebacked attack on Conakry last November.

The emergency meeting was called after the Guinean Ambassador (Mr Abdoulaye Tour), had reported that his Government had monitored “conversations between units of foreign Navies and the Portuguese” on Monday, learning by that means that an imminent military aggression was planned by Portugal.
