Club seeks affiliation

A letter from the Chath Islands Rugby Club seek affiliation to the Canterbi Rugby Sub-unions was ft ourably received by the sv unions’ management comm tee meeting yesterday. At present, there are thr senior clubs, two under-, teams, and four primai schoolboys’ teams in th Chatham Islands. “We must do all we ca' to help them play Rugby,’ said Mr M. R. Barnett, sup porting the request. The meeting decided to [Supply the Chatham Islands I with all available information about the sub-unions’ competition, and the necessary handbooks, before taking further action.

The chairman (Mr F. J. Shadbolt) felt that country players were not receiving a “fair deal” from the Canterbury B Rugby selectors. “The selectors should be at the country shield matches,” he said. “I am sure there are many country players who are up to Canterbury B standards.” In reply to a question, the secretary (Mr G. A. Knight) informed the meeting that the selectors had been sent passes and a list of fixtures for the season.
