The Australian fast bowler, G. McKenzie, who was noballed eight times in an over for over-stepping while playing for Leicestershire against
Kent at Folkestone on Sunday, led most cricket reports in London’s morning newspapers yesterday. At the start of the Australian’s seventh over, Kent, chasing 169, off 40 overs, was 32 for no wicket. After he had completed it, they were 63 for no wicket. The Kent captain, M. Denness, hit six fours from the over, three of them from the no-balls. “The Times” headed its cricket column—“McKenzie’s over of agony.” The umpire who called McKenzie was also an Australian, “The Times” said— W. Alley. The “Daily Mirror” splashed the dramatic over across five columns, saying “McKenzie steps right in it with 14-ball over.” Denness went on to make an unbeaten 83 as Kent coasted to a nine-wicket win in the John Player Sunday League match.
