(N.Z'. Press Association)
GREYMOUTH, July 16.
A committee was empowered by the annual conference of the ‘ National Beekeepers’ Association In Greymouth today to ask the Government to provided the Honey Marketing Authority with more finance to pay an increased advance to beekeepers for their honey. The authority buys honey during the three-month season, and Government finance is used for this purpose. An advance payment is made to the supplier, and the balance is paid during the rest of the year.
The conference also carried a resolution calling, for the regulations governing the payment of the seals levy to be enforced, and that provision be made to cover honey sold from the beekeepers’ own premises at roadside stalls and in. bulk stores. Two remits on Honey Marketing Authority facilities one from the West Coast suggesting that a container depot in the South Island be established, and the other from North Otago, seeking better storage facilities at Timaru were adopted. The chairman of the authority (Mr R. Poole) said both were being investigated.
