15 RATE SAMPLES

Samples of rate demands that will go out from the Christchurch City Council in August were given to the estimates meeting last evening by the chairman of the finance committee (Ci* H. P. Smith).

Of the 15 samples, most of Which have been chosen year by year as examples, six showed an increase for the council, but it was a matter of cents in each case.

In every case, however, the Drainage, Transport and Catchment Boards will receive more. The Fire Board’s levy is unchanged. The relationship of capital and unimproved value affects rates, but the following samples give a guide. Figures in parentheses are those for last year. Figures are given to the nearest dollars except for the total and the subtotals of the council’s collection.
