Special date*stamp
A pictorial date-stamp will be used on Monday to commemorate the opening of the new chief post office at Rotorua. The Wellington Chief Postmaster (Mr L. B, Gordon) said yesterday that envelopes cancelled with the special date-stamp could be obtained by sending stamped, addressed envelopes to the Chief Postmaster, Rotorua, with a request that the envelopes be cancelled with the special date-stamp. The outside envelope or wrapping should reach the Rotorua Postmaster by tomorrow.— (P.A.) Games donation The Canterbury region of the Racing Drivers’ Club yesterday presented a cheque for $407 to the chairman of the Commonwealth Games organising committee (Mr R. S. Scott). The cheque represented the gate-takings from a grass track meeting held at Dunsandel last month expressly to raise money for the Games. The meeting was held in conjunction with the Ellesmere Motor Club.
4deg frost A frost of 4 degrees was recorded at Christchurch Airport and at the Botanic Gardens yesterday morning. This was only the third frost since the official beginning of winter on June 1. Six minor frosts were recorded in May.
