New Mexico violence
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter— -Copyright? ALBUQUERQUE(New Mexico), June 15. A band of 300 youths, defying a dusk-to-dawn curfew, threw stones and Molotov cocktails at National Guardsmen and police and fire-bombed several buildings as violence flared in Albuquerque for the second successive night. Several guardsmen were struck by stones and at least two people were taken to hospitals.
Scores of demonstrators, both young men and women, were arrested and removed in buses from the Roosevelt Park area—centre of rioting on Sunday night which left at least 14 persons with gunshot wounds.
The fresh violence last night erupted as about 500 National Guardsmen armed with rifles, and policemen armed with truncheons, moved in on youths when they refused to leave the park after a 7 pjn.-to-6 a.m. curfew began.
