Obstetrical advances

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, June 15. Doctors can now take lifesize photographs of unborn babies after only five and a half weeks gestation, “The Times” reports.

Announcing the latest development in photographing babies in the womb, Professor lan Donald, Regius Professor of Midwifery at Glasgow University, said: “What is even more important, it is now possible to show the pregnancy which is not developing satisfactorily. “Later, the growth-rate can be accurately assessed by the development of the baby’s head.

“Now, at last, we can recognise not only the normal, but die abnormal.”

Professor Donald, who was giving a lecture to the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, said that the echo-sounding equipment and techniques involved had been developed by a team at his hospital over 16 years.
