Talk called off
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) GENEVA, June 15. The World Council of Churches has called off a special consultation with South African churches on its programme to combat racialism because the South African Prime Minister (Mr Vorster) has imposed totally unacceptable conditions for it, according to the W.C.C.’s Secretary-General (Dr Eugene Carson Blake).
The consultation, due to have taken place next month, has been postponed indefinitely.
“The Prime Minister has interfered in the negotiations,” Dr Blake said. "In a letter to Dr Alex Boraine, the convener of the consultations in South Africa, I have expressed my regret that the new conditions imposed by the Prime Minister are totally unacceptable to the World Council of Churches, and, therefore, force us to postpone the consultations indefinitely?
The World Council of Churches groups 250 Protestant Anglican and Orthodox churches all over the world.
