CATHEDRAL GRAMMAR

Functions for \ anniversary A buffet dinner and a service in the Christchurch Cathedral next week are the functions planned to mark the ninetieth anniversary of the Cathedral Grammar School.

The dinner, for old boys and friends of the school, would be held in the school hall oh June 12, said the headmaster (Mr P. A Voider). The service in the Cathedral would be held on June 13. No-one seemed to know precisely on what date the school was opened, said Mt Valder. It may have been at the same time as the opening of the Cathedral (November L 1881) or it may have been a few months before, to prepare choristers for the opening.

Tenders for extension Tenders have been called for an extension to a threestorey classroom block at the school The extension, to house changing rooms on the first floor, a science laboratory on the second floor, and an art room on the third floor will be added to a six-class-room block built in 1964. Two changing rooms will be built: one for boys, and a smaller one for women and girls when the school’s swimming pool is being used by mixed groups. At present, art work is done in a small wooden building and science lessons are taken in an ordinary classroom. Finance for tfie extension will be provided from the school's science building fund appeal, conducted last year.

The architects are Trengrove, Trengrove and Marshall.
