$50,000 for Merry Estate facilities
Finance amounting to about $50,000 for facilities in addition to those to be provided by the Christchurch City Council, will probably be needed by the Canterbury Hockey Association for its new grounds at the Merry Estate, Kerr’s Reach.
The chairman of the management committee (Mr T. I. Crossen) said at the association’s meeting last evening that some action would have to be taken soon. The additional facilities required were lighting, an all-weather surface, and water reticulation for the summer.
Suggestions made by Mr Crossen for raising finance included the reinvestment of money which the association had already put aside but at a higher rate of interest; a dollar-for-dollar subsidy from the Golden Kiwi funds; and a debenture scheme involving about $lO,OOO to which clubs would be asked to subscribe.
