OCEANIA SOCCER
Earlier date wanted
The Oceania soccer tournament, the first in the Pacific area, will be held in New Caledonia probably between October 29 and November 7. Both New Zealand and Australia had hoped the tournament could be played a month earlier, so that it would follow on after the end of the national playing seasons. However, there will be a final meeting of the Oceania Soccer Federation to confirm the dates. Apart from its brief World Cup venture New Zealand has not had a full-scale overseas tour since the 1967 Vietnam tournament If there is no clash of dates this year New Zealand may go on to play in the Vietnam tournament after visiting New Caledonia.
