Awahnee calls at Lyttelton
The 53ft auxiliary cutter Awahnee which recently circumnavigated the globe from west to east by sailing round the Antarctic continent called briefly at Lyttelton on Thursday for stores, on passage from Bluff to Auckland.
Dr R. Griffith, of California, the leader of the venture, said that he would write a book about his experiences, which would be illustrated by photographs taken on the voyage. Dr Griffith was accompanied by his wife and son, and three New Zealanders as crew, on the voyage.
