SPECIAL LOAVES

Objections by C.A.R.P. (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 22. A demand for action to stop the replacement of price-controlled, standardwrapped bread by special, more expensive loaves, will be included in submissions by the Campaign Against Rising Prices to the public inquiry into the price of bread.

The president of the Wellington branch of C.A.R.P. (Mrs C. Kelly) in giving his news today said that since last October, bakers had replaced about 50 per cent of their standard - wrapped loaves, which are price-con-trolled, by milk loaves which were not under price control.

Such replacement loaves were of less weight than standard loaves and cost more. C.A.R.P. was also concerned that some supermarkets were not selling any standard loaves. Retailers and manufacturers could

make more profit on special bread, she said.

The Department of Industries and Commerce would ask for submissions for the inquiry as soon as it had decided the terms of reference, a departmental spokesman said today.
