DISPOSAL OF REFUSE
Joint scheme discussions Discussions were continuing between the engineers of the councils in metropolitan Christchurch on the possibility of establishing a joint refuse treatment plant, said the Paparua County Council’s Clerk (Mr A. Kelly) yesterday.
Commenting on proposals put to the Metropolitan Fire Board on Wednesday evening for improvements in the collection and disposal of rubbish in the city, Mr Kelly said that the Paparua County Council, four years ago, had proposed a central treatment and disposal plant “The idea had not been lost sight of, and discussions h-”e continued at intervals a mg the engineers. of ths ous councils.” said Mr K 'V.
’e said his council had g-' -'n a great deal of thought ir recent vears to the disposal of rubbish, but Paparua County was fortunate in that it had a number of excavated nits, manv of which c-ntd he used for rubbish tips, and, when filled, would p "Ode grounds for recreation.
While the need for other means of disposal was not for that reason so great in the county, the council agreed that the time was approaching when some central disposal unit would be desirable.
