1973 Australian tour for Harmonic Society
The choir of the Christchurch Harmonic Society will present nine concerts in the main orchestral series of the Australian Broadcasting Commission in Sydney and Melbourne in 1973.
Although the exact length of the tour has not yet been decided, the visit was tentatively set for May, 1973, said the musical director of the society (Mr W. R. Hawkey). Mr Hawkey said that five concerts were planned for Sydney and four for Melbourne. There was a possibility that the choir would sing at the Sydney Opera House although this would depend on whether the opera house was finished.
The Harmonic Society choir has previously toured
overseas on two major occasions—to Britain in 1965 for the Commonwealth Arts Festival and to Australia in 1967. The choir will work with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in Sydney and the Victorian Symphony Orchestra in Melbourne.
The general manager of I the Australian Broadcasting : Commission (Mr T. S. Duck- ■ manton) said he was certain i that the society’s proposed tour would be a great success.
