Commentator to train
Mr F. L. Holmes, of Ellesmere, one of New Zealand’s best known trotting commentators, has resigned his position with all trotting clubs and owners’ and breeders’ organisations. He has applied to the Trotting Conference for training and horse--man’s licences. ; Mr Holmes has for the last 20 years acted as commentator for both racing and trotting clubs. The clubs from which he has resigned this week include the Oamaru, Wellington. Kaikoura and Waikouaiti trotting clubs. He has from time to time stood in for commentators at almost all racing and trotting meetings in Canterbury. It will be nothing new for Mr Holmes to train and drive horses. More than 20 years ago he enjoyed success both as a driver and a rider in saddle events. Mr Holmes has a number of young horses to train and drive. In addition he is the proprietor of a large breeding establishment, at which the Americanbred horse, Play Bill, was located this season.
