TOBACCO STUDY
Co-operative suggested (N.Z Press Association) NELSON, April 21. Nelson tobacco growers have agreed to a study into the possible establishment of a co-operative system for the industry. The decision was made at a meeting of the Tobacco Growers' Federation last night at Motueka after growers had said they were dissatisfied about progress towards stabilisation of the industry. The president of the federation (Mr R. W. S. Stevens) reported to about 75 growers that after 15 months of discussion no agreement had been reached in implementing the recommendations of a commission of inquiry. The growers will ask the member of Parliament for Buller (Mr W. E. Rowling) to introduce a private member’s bill to have the commission’s recommendations implemented.
