Population changes

Continued housing development on the outskirts of Christchurch has resulted in a population increase of 14 per cent in the Heathcote

County in the last five years, according to provisional census results released by the Government Statistician (Mr J. P. Lewin) yesterday. Heathcote County, which at the last census in 1966; had a smaller population than; Ellesmere County, has now; outstripped Ellesmere, which I

had a population increase of 5 per cent over the last five years reflecting the growth of Lincoln. Heathcote County now has a population of 7563, compared with Ellesmere’s 7505.
