SYDNEY BUS STRIKE
Talks to be renewed (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, Mar. 28. Bus services in Sydney’s northernmost suburbs resumed today after agreement between the New South Wales Government and transport unions which has ended a drivers’ strike lasting 28 days. The stoppage began when Transport Department staff refused to work doubledecker buses crewed only by one man. Last week, the New South Wales Premier (Mr Robin Askin) threatened to sack the striking busmen and began negotiations to sell off bus routes affected by the strike. But on Friday a compromise was reached when Mr Askin withdrew his threat. In return, the union will seek permission from rank-and-file members to begin discussions with the Transport Commissioner (Mr Stanley Berry).
