FARMERS’ PRICES
Protest in Netherlands (N J.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) ENSCHEDE, March 28. Hundreds of angry Dutch farmers blocked three border crossings into Germany with tractors on Thursday in protest against the Common Market’s agricultural policy. Traffic along the three motorways between Winterswijk and Denekamp came to, a standstill about noon. The farmers, acting in sup-! port of the violent demonstrations by Belgian farmers; in Brussels yesterday, carried! banners demanding a higher! price for their produce. One trailer was rigged with ■ a gallows from which hung the Common Market Commis- * sioner for Agriculture (Dr Sicco Mansholt) in effigy. In Brussels yesterday, the Common Market Agriculture Ministers continued to wran-! gle over price increases in a; building guarded by scores of’ policemen armed with rifles and water cannon. The six Ministers were in the third day of their attempt to decide on increases for the 1971-72 season. But they have been unable to agree, largely because of a deep rift between the interests of the West Germans and Italians. Their deadline for an agreement is April 1.
