Terminal bonus scheme in N.Z.

Terminal bonuses, which the National Mutual Life Association has been paying to policy-holders in Australia, Britain and South Africa are now being paid in New Zealand. The extension to New Zealand is effective for all participating policies which become claims by death or maturity during the period March 1, 1971, to March 31, 1972. The terminal bonuses are in addition to the usual bonuses, known as reversionary bonuses and the idea is to allow participating policyholders to share in capital appreciation of the investment portfolio.

I During the year new policies were issued for sums assured totalling $1324m. This exceeded the 1969 figure by s3som. New Zealand contributed $184.4m of the association’s new business compared with !sls3m last year. Total new annual premium income in New Zealand increased by 36.6 per cent.
