FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A large anticyclone over the Tasman Sea is spreading slowly on to New Zealand and a disturbed westerly airstream is flowing over the area to the south of the South Island. Forecast: Canterbury.—Light or moderate variable winds, north-easterlies about the coast; dry, with variable cloud; mild during the day but cool again tonight; frosts inland. Buller and Westland.—Light or moderate winds, westerlies predominating; fine apart from considerable high cloud; mild during the day but cool again tonight. Nelson, Marlborough.—Light or moderate variable winds, north-westerlies about Cook Strait; fine apart from some scattered cloudy areas; mild during the day but cool again tonight. Outlook.—Dry in all districts.
