Dr H. T. Ferrar
Str,—ln your obituary of Nicholas Ferrar, you refer to his father, H. T. Ferrar, as a zoologist. Dr Hartley Travers Ferrar was a geologist. He served as geologist on Scott’s National Antarctic Expedition, 1901-04, and with the Egyptian Government, 1905-15. He was briefly a teacher at Christ’s College, Christchurch, before serving in the army in the First World War. From 1919 until his death in 1932 he worked for the New Zealand Geological Survey and produced detailed geological maps of much of North Auckland, the King Country, and Central Otago.—Yours, etc., D.
