LONDON, March 28.
More New Zealanders are coining to Britain to work than in previous years. Immigration figures published by the Home Office show that 221 New Zealanders holding employment vouchers entered Britain in 1970, compared to 116 in 1969.
There were also more doctors (27), more nurses (23), more dentists (18), and more science and technology graduates (27). Of the 221 entrants to Britain, 30 had Category A vouchers, which means that they had a specific job to
come to in Britain, and 191 had Category B vouchers, which means they had no specific job but possessed certain qualifications or skills entitling them to automatic entry. More men students also came to Britain last year—--116 as against 102—but there were fewer women students—4l as against 56, a net drop of one. Earlier figures published by the Home Office indicated that more students in fact had arrived last year than in 1969, but this discrepancy appears to be accounted for by another statistic. This says that 157 students coming into Britain in 1970 brought more dependent children with them than 158 students did in 1969, and according to the Home Office, dependent children of students are also classified as students.
Another set of figures published by the Home Office indicates that employment immigration from New Zealand will continue to rise during 1971. Last year British high commissions and embassies issued New Zealanders with 336 employment vouchers, compared with 257 in 1969. Some of the additional voucher holders no doubt entered Britain during thfe last months of 1970, but the majority will be included in the 1971 entry statistics.
