India out for 185
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) BRIDGETOWN.
India was dismissed for 185, its lowest score on the team’s present West Indies tour, on the opening day of a four-day match against the strong Barbados side on Saturday. A combination of indifferent batting and excellent bowling by J. Shepherd, who took four for 40 in an accurate spell of 14 overs, caused the Indian’s downfall on a lively pitch. Barbados, fielding nine oresent and former West
Indies test players, scored 44 for no wicket in 45 minutes’ batting .before the close. In fact, the Indians were lucky to reach 185, its captain, A. Wadekar, being missed twice as he contributed a valuable 42 to the total. Abid Ali (41) and K. Jayantilal (40) were the only other successful batsmen.
The Barbados captain, G. S. Sobers, had won the toss and put India in to bat. Shepherd certainly backed his decision, as did the former test fast bowler, W. W. Hall, with two for 25, and V. Holder, two for 41.
