Several notable double* were achieved In the inter-secondary schools athletics meeting at Rugby Park on Saturday. Foremost amongst these was th* success of Miss L. Trimble (Christchurch Girls' High School) at th* girls' championships In th* morning. . Miss Trimble was - the only

competitor to return record performances in more than one event—and this she did three times st two distances. Now 15, Miss Trimble set a new best time of 7.Bsec in her heat of

the senior girls’ 60 metres—best times to the girls’ sports applying to events which nave not yet been held for three years. Later Miss Trimble figured in a' thrilling final with Miss D. Munro S urnside High School), with the dges being unable to separate em for first place to Bsec, equalling the previous best time. Less than 10 minutes later Miss Trimble equalled the oldest of the girls’ records—tost for the senior 200 metres. Outclassing her opposition by 10 yards, Miss Trimble returned 26.1 sec, equalling the metric Suivalent for the 26.25ec set by as K. Mackenzie (St Margaret's CoUege) for the 220 yards to 1960. Miss Munro had her turn with a second win, taking the 100 metres to U.Bsec. D. Green eutstendlng D. Green gained an outstanding double for Malrehau High School to the senior boys’ events with convincing wins to the 400 metres and 800 metres. Green's times of 53.25ec and Imto 58.5 see were worthy efforts with strong winds to contend with.

G. Wislang (Linwood High Schoo!) was the dominant figure to the sprints taking the 100-200 metres double to the senior grade. One of the surprises was the relegation of P. Wilkinson, into third place to both events. Other fine sprint doubles were gained by M. Sutherland (Bumaide) to the Intermediate 100 and 300 metres and E. Hamilton (Shirley Boys’ High School) to the junior 200 end 400 metre*. Domlnence ended Th* meeting was significant for marking the end of a speU of dominance by St Bede’s College to the high jumps. In contrast with the previous two Sears when St Bede’s has won iroe of the four high Jumps, that coUege gained only one clear win this year. This was by K. McKee with sft to the under 14 section. Another St Bede’s boy, R. Lockington, shared first place in the senior grade with T. Stewart (Combined Country High Schools) with a height of sft 4to. Lockington had a second win, repeating his last year’s success in the pole vault. The best high jump was a leap of sft 6in by P. BaUey (Linwood) to the intermediate division. G. Gardiner claimed the junior grade for St Andrew’s CoUege. M. Anderson (St Bede’s College) seemed well on the way to beating the record of ISmto 29.45ec for the 5090 metres when he completed the first four laps in 4min 45sec. The early pace and the wind took its tell and Anderson tailed off to mirs the record by nearly ISsec. Regarded as a likely candidate for the difficult 1500-5000 metre double Anderson failed to come up to expectations in the shorter event near the end of the programme and finished out of a place. After being second to Green to the 800 metres L. Mason (Bumside High School) made a gritty ran to take the 1500 metres in 4mto 22.8 sec.
