Clashes in Vietnam

North Vietnamese troops infiltrating from Laos clashed twice yesterday with American and South Vietnamese forces in the northern province of Quang Tri, and the United States air base at Khe Sanh came under fresh artillery fire. American helicopter gunships attacked North Vietnamese troops nine miles south-east of Khe Sanh yesterday. In Saigon, an American military spokesman said that h<had no knowledge of air strikes by Stratofortress bombers against North Vietnamese supply routes, or of artillery duels over the Demilitarised Zone. “I have received no official word to confirm such reports,” the spokesman said. In Eastern Cambodia, Cambodian troops, supported by United States helicopters, are reported to have killed 70 North Vietnamese yesterday in a battle four miles southeast of Chipou, near the South Vietnamese border.
