Committee revived
Christchurch metropolitan local bodies are to reconvene the committee that was set up to establish an underground water authority, as required by legislation. The Mayor of Lyttelton (Mr J. B. Collett) said at the meeting of the local bodies’ representatives on Thursday that a letter from the Minister of Works (Mr Allen) requested that the parties establish the authority. A committee under the chairmanship of Cr G. t). Hattaway (City Council) had met many times and had done a great deal of work in an effort to reach agreement on the authority but had been unable to make headway. Mr Collett recommended that the committee be reconvened and expressed the hope that Heathcote and Paparua representatives would attend the committee meeting. The two councils had been unable to agree with the outlined policy before.
The recommendation was passed, Heathcote and Paparua representatives saying their councils would be represented.
