Soccer charges up 10c
Rothmans National Soccer League matches at English Park in the coming season will cost more. Admission for adult spectators will be 50 cents to all parts of the ground instead of the 40 cents charged last season. However, the price for
schoolchildren will again be 10 cents. The increase to 50 cents was recommended to all clubs by the National League Committee at its last meeting earlier this month. “Reluctantly, but perhaps inevitably, we have had to make this 10 cent increase for adult spectators,” Mr F. J. Haydon, the chairman of the national league club, Christchurch United, said yesterday. “It has been forced upon us by the increase of 20 per cent in air fares in the last 12 months. With eight trips to the North Island to be made this season four to Auckland, three to Wellington and one to Gisborne the club’s travel costs wjll increase by $lOOO.
“The club had also considered making an extra charge for entry into the closed stand, as is done in Auckland, Wellington and Gisborne, but in the light of tiie increase already to be made, it was decided not to do so for the 1971 season. “There was no thought of increasing the charges for schoolchildren. The more of them that come to our matches, the greater the prospect for soccer in the future.”
