MARIJUANA RESEARCH A COMMITTEE of the Medical Research Council of New Zealand is preparing a report on requirements for research within New Zealand into the use of marijuana in this country. Reports have already been prepared by the committee on pharmacological, toxicological and psychiatric aspects of marijuana usage. Written submissions are now invited on the sociological implications of marijuana use, with comments on the need seen for research in this area and the type of research envisaged. A meeting of parents to elect nine parents’ representatives on each intermediate school committee will be held at each of these schools on Monday, May 3, at 7.30 p.m. The Board calls upon the parents in each case to send in to the Chairman of the School Committee, in writing, on or before Monday, April 26, not later than 8 p.m., the names of persons nominated by them to serve on the School Committee. Such nominations must be signed by the proposer and the candidate. It should be noted that any parent present at the biennial meeting may nominate any person who consents by word of mouth or in writing to be nominated. CANTERBURY EDUCATION BOARD ELECTION OF SCHOOL COMMITTEES The Board, in pursuance of the power conferred by the Education Act (1964) and its Amendments, hereby directs that a public meeting of householders be held in each school district in the Canterbury Education District, with the exception of Special Schools, District High Schools and Intermediate Schools, on Monday, April 19, 1971. at half-past seven o’clock in the evening, for the election of a school committee for each district, such committee to hold office tor two years. A public meeting of houseSolders to elect committees for istrict High Schools will be held at each of these schools on Monday, May 3, 1971, at 7.30 p.m. Where the grading roll which determined the grade of any school for 1971 did not exceed one hundred children, the number of members of the school committee to be elected at that meeting shall be five; where that roll number was over one hundred and not over two hundred, the number of members to be elected as aforesaid shall be seven; and where the roll number is over two hundred, the number of members to be elected as aforesaid shall be nine. For the purpose of these elections the school district of the above schools is the greater Christchurch residential area as defined by the Christchurch Regional Planning Authority’s urban boundary comonly known as the "urban fence.” Householders residing within this area, together with parents of pupils attending the schools, are eligible to attend, nominate and vote. The Board further calls upon the householders to send in to the Chairman of the School Committee, in writing, on or before Monday, April 19, not later than 8 p.m., the names pf persons being householders nominated by them to serve on the committee.
