Award for gold town project
(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, March 25. Mr A. L. Sutherland, the originator of Shantytown, the replica of a goldfields township, near Greymouth, has been awarded the Newman award by the New Zealand Travel Association. The executive of the association unanimously decided to make the award this year to Mr Sutherland at a meeting in Whakatane yesterday. In a telegram to Mr Sutherland, the chief executive of the association (Mr N. E. Lobb) said the award was being made “for your outstanding contribution to the New Zealand tourist industry by promoting the establishment of the imaginative ShantyItown project at Rutherglen.”
