Boxing president for 11th year
Mr E. G. Pocock was reelected president for the eleventh year in succession at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Boxing Association last evening. His nomination was not opposed.
Messrs C. Wellman and R. Moore were re-elected vicepresidents unopposed. It was the shortest (45 minutes) and most harmonious annual meeting of the association in recent years. Members elected to the eight-man management committee are: Messrs M. V. Drury, C. Knowles, R. Harper, J. Murray, H. Sutton, W.
Russell, E. Tolhurst and A. Fidow. The last three named were not on the committee last year. More than 20 of the 70 financial members of the association attended. It was resolved to have a membership drive. The association’s current, assets are shown at $895, with fixed assets of $3BB. The main items of income for last year were $2OOO from raffle proceeds and $1154 from gate takings. Proceeds from a sponsored trek were $292. The association staged no professional bouts last year, but sent amateur boxers to the junior (Hamilton) and senior (Timaru) national championships. The main items of expenditure were Commonwealth Games expenses ($1175) and raffle prizes ($1080). One professional tournament has been held this year and is expected to show a loss of more than $lOO. It is not shown on the balance sheet, as the financial year ended on January 31. Another professional bout is planned for next month.
