FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A depression centred over South Westland is deepening gradually and is expected to move very slowly north-east; the cold front associated with it should have crossed most of the North Island last night and will move away to the east later in the day. Forecast: Canterbury.—Light or moderate east to south-east winds; mainly overcast and cool, rather persistent light to moderate rain. Marlborough, Nelson and Buller.—Light variable winds; showers at times but increasing fair periods likely during the day; moderate temperatures. Westland.—Moderate south-east winds; cloudy, with scattered light showers but slowly increasing fair periods during the day; rather cool. Outlook. —Fine in Nelson, Buller and Westland; scattered showers in Marlborough; rather cloudy with drizzle likely in Canterbury.
