Meat raffles

Sir,—The master butchers’ conference was reported to be concerned about raffles held in hotels and workingmen’s clubs. How insane can these butchers be? The great majority of working men who belong to clubs are and always have been supporters of the small butchers against the big supermarkets. Only one in a hundred wins a joint of meat for the outlay of 10c or 20c and in most cases the joints are held ip very hygienic condition until won. —Yours, etc., A. March 24, 1971.
