Sir,—As the speaker referred to by Mr Beauchamp, I shall put him right on all he says with more thrown in. The reporter did not quite quote me correctly in this part. But I am glad Mr Beauchamp mentions King Alfred’s ninth-century England and warring DanishSaxon tribes. Churchill said: “This strong strain of individualism, based upon land ownership, afterwards to play a persistent part, not only in the blood, but in the politics of England.” I made this point to Rotarians on historic Maori land attitudes.
