Decline in fall-out
(N.Z.P.A.-Rautar—Copyright) GENEVA, March 23. Radioactive fall-out in milk is at present within safe limits, a World Health Organisation (W.H.0.) committee has reported. But it said that the situation needed surveillance, in view of the possible testing of atomic weapons and the rapidly expanding use of atomic energy. The levels of fall-out of elements such as strontium 90 in total diets and in milk reached a maximum in 1964 and had steadily declined since, the report said. “Recent atomic weapon tests by China and France have not appreciably changed this situation.’’ Under the 1963 test-ban treaty, the United States, Britain and the Soviet Union agreed to discontinue atmospheric testing of nuclear weapons; France and China did not sign the treaty.'
