SEASON’S ENTRIES

Same seven expected The same seven teams as last season were expected to contest the 1971 Canterbury A grade men’s basketball championship, the convener of the competitions committee (Mr M. Reynolds) said yesterday. Doubt only surrounded one team, Burnham, and this would be cleared up in a day or two, he added. The other teams are Checkers. Y.M.C.A., High School Old Boys, Old Maroons, University and Rangiora. Originally scheduled to begin on April 3, the inter-club season will not now start until April 17. Fifty-four teams have entered the competitions in the following grades:— Saturday.—A grade 7, B grade 14, C grade 7, D grade 8. Tuesday.—B reserve 8, C reserve 12, secondary schools 8. Because of the large entry for the Saturday B grade, which included the Mairehau and Christchurch Boys’ High School teams, the competition would be divided in half, Mr Reynolds said. Each section would play three full rounds with play-offs on tha final day of competition.
