The 73ft ocean racer Buccaneer staved off a strong challenge from Roulette II to be the first across the finish line in the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron’s 230mile coastal race. At one stage in the race. Buccaneer and Roulette were side by side swapping the lead between Channel Island and The Noises, until Buccaneer picked up a breeze and put an hour on Roulette. Roulette finished the race nearly an hour behind Buccaneer. Young Nick was the third boat home, another hour back, and Runaway was about half an hour back to be fourth boat of the eightboat fleet in.
