New prison “in time”

Mount Eden had to be replaced as soon as possible, but even with the best will in the world, that would not be j for some time, said the Secretary for Justice (Mr E. A. Missen) tonight. i Speaking at the presentation of long-service medals to Mount Eden Prison officers .tonight, Mr Missen said that ■ although penal policy was I proceeding generally along ithe right lines, staff must 'where necessary be prepared to take firm and even drastic action against recalcitrants in order to preserve the interests of the majority. “I want to express my thanks, and to pay a tribute to the decisive and resolute action taken by the prison superintendent and staff in dealing with the crisis on Saturday,” he said.
