Rock festival planned

An all-day rock festival will be held at Ashburton on Easter Saturday. Organised by the Ashburton Maori Community, the festival will be called the Hakatere Rock Festival, and is planned to include groups from Christchurch, Ashburton, and Timaru. The festival has, however, already met with some problems. It was originally to have been held in an open field, similar to the Englefield festival, but permission cannot be obtained to run it on local playing fields or the showground. It will now probably be held in a hall. The festival will be policed by Maori wardens, although police are expected to make routine patrols. Many of the details have yet to be completed, and the organisers are still arranging bands and a compere.
