Drilling ends in Grey R.

(N Z. Press Association) GREYMOUTH, March 24. Drilling and prospecting for gold in the Grey riverbed at Ngahere, which Kanieri Gold Dredging, Ltd, has been carrying out for about six months, ceased at the end of last week.

The prospecting has been an attempt to find another site for the Kanieri dredge, the last gold dredge working in New Zealand. Mr Kevin Buckley, for the company, said in Greymouth this morning that the results from the bores and other prospecting will not be released until all shareholders have been notified. The last time a decision was made to shift the dredge, the job took about four years. It was dismantled and shifted from a site near Kaniere, south of Hokitika, and reassembled in the Taramakau River.

Drill-prospecting for possible sites would be a necessity, because the dredge bucket chain can reach depths of 90 feet when fully depressed.
