Protest at Aust, school
(N.Z. Press Assn.— Copyright) SYDNEY, March 24. A schoolboy, aged 16, objections to whose long hair gave rise to a walk-out by 160 pupils at Katoomba High School yesterday, returned to school today with neatlytrimmed locks.
Michael Murphy, a fourth former, had been suspended by his headmaster, Mr N. McGill, because his hair was too long, and boys and girls in several forms walked out of the school grounds. Mr McGill approved Michael Murphy’s haircut this morning, but the boy refused to apologise for causing the walk-out because, he said, he was “standing up for the rights of every individual.”
